Lab 10 Review: Primates

1. What three Families (from lab) are in the Suborder Strepshirini?

2. What Families are in the Suborder Haplorhini?

It's time for the name that family game. Note that all the primates are in the Order Primates (no candy for you if you get that one wrong).

3. You see a small skull with a partial postorbital plate (that looks like it has been broken or something) and huge orbits. Family?

4. You see a skull with a postorbital plate, bony ear tubes, the first lower premolar angled backwards, holes in the maxilla that look like freckles and bilophodont teeth. Family?

5. You see a skull with a postorbital plate, bony ear tubes and with the infraorbital foramen tucked under the eye, rather hidden. Family??

6. The next skull has a postorbital plate, bony ear tubes, and the lower premolar is NOT angled backwards. Some of the skulls in this family are more rounded and have more bunodontish teeth. Family?

7. This skull has a postorbital plate, no bony ear tubes, and 6 upper cheekteeth (that are quadritubercular) per quadrant. Family?

8. You see a skull with a postorbital plate, no bony ear tubes and 5 triangularish cheekteeth per quadrant. Family?

9. You see a skull with no postorbital plate, no bony ear tubes, a longer rostrum and a fenestrated zygomatic arch. Family?

10. You see a skull with no postorbital plate, no bony ear tubes, a shorter rostrum, and distinct temporal ridges. Family?

11. You see a skull with no postorbital plate, no bony ear tubes, a shorter rostrum and no distinct temporal ridges. Family?

Now that you know the Families so well with no problem, you can learn the ranges.

12. Which are the only two families in our hemisphere?

13. Which family is found throughout the whole Old World?

14. In that Old World, which two families are found in Southeast Asia?

15. This is a hard one. Be ready to think. Where is the Family Hominidae found?

The last three families are in the Suborder Strepshirini, and notice that they are all attached to Africa somehow.

16. Where do you find the Family Lemuridae?

17. If youwanted to play with the Family Loridae, where would you go?

18. You want to travel to see the F. Galagonidae (bush babies) for vacation. Where should you go?
